Before you call a computer repair tech, you
should take a look at your computer yourself. Just a
little common sense may help you solve your hardware or
software problems. If you decide that the problem is
more than you want to tackle, make sure to write down
what it was you were doing when the problem occurred.
Also take note of any error messages that come up. When
talking to an NWPC tech make sure to be as specific as
possible.
Hard Drive crash?
Hard Drive Mechanic
is the only PC recovery program designed so anyone can
get their computer back up and running.
1.
Here are a few tips to help you out and get your
computer back up and running in no time.
2.
Try restarting your computer. Many times a software
problem will fix itself on reboot.
3.
If your computer has frozen up, and the process of going
through proper restart is not working, push and hold the
power button in until the computer shuts down. Once the
machine has shut down, wait 30 seconds, and power the
computer back up. When the computer has completed power
up, go through these steps to run a scan disk to fix and
repair any issues your hard drive may have. Go to the
START button then to MY COMPUTER, right click on your C:
drive and go to PROPERTIES, click on the PROPERTIES tab
then in the ERROR CHECKING box click on the button CHECK
NOW. Check the box AUTOMATICALLY FIX FILE SYSTEM ERRORS
and click START. When prompted to restart your computer
click YES. The machine will restart and on the restart
the machine will run a scan disk to check for any
errors.
4.
Check to make sure all cables are plugged in properly
and none have come lose. If your keyboard is not
working, make sure it has not come lose from the back of
your computer. Same with your mouse. If you have a
wireless keyboard, make sure the batteries are charged
or replace them with new batteries.
5.
Not powering up? Check to make sure the power outlet has
power and the power cord has not come lose.
6.
If Windows can't find a device (CD-ROM - Modem, act.) go
to the START
à
CONTROL PANEL
à
double-click the SYSTEM ICON , and click the
HARDWARE tab
à
then click on DEVICE MANAGER. If your new drive
is shown with an exclamation point
“!"
next to it, right click on your new drive and delete it.
Windows will ask you to reboot, when you reboot windows
this time, windows should find your new drive.
Did you install new software or new hardware like a new
video card? That can be the problem, think what did you
install or change before the problem started. You can
try uninstall or removing the software and or hardware
from your pc. Try to get your PC back to the point
before you installed or made changes to your system.
